Abstract

The present paper aimed at testing BioMin C and BioMin F for treating dentin hypersensitivity (DH). Dentin flat surfaces were treated with EDTA (C10H16N2O8). BioMin C and BioMin F pastes were applied on all specimens followed by exposure of the specimen to an acid challenge. The percentages of coverage by the bioactive materials for the dentin surfaces before/after the erosion challenge were compared by Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The specimens were chemically analyzed using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM/EDS) equipped with electron-dispersive-spectroscopy. The specimens treated with the bioactive pastes showed 100% coverage with a crystalline layer. The erosive acid challenge did not statistically affect the percentage of dentin coverage with the crystalline layer p<0.01. The layer resulting from applying BioMin C was composed of hydroxyapatite crystals, while that formed by BioMin F paste was brushite crystals. The tested glasses may aid in treating dentin hypersensitivity
